Making the Buns
- In a large bowl, combine your yeast, sugar, salt, and flour. Heat warm water, milk, and oil in a saucepan, then add to the dry mixture, stirring until well combined.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Cover with a cloth and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, create your custard filling using your preferred method.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and knead for another 3 minutes. Divide it into 12 equal pieces, rolling each into a circle. Place a teaspoon of custard on one half, fold the other half over, and seal the edges. Let the buns rest for 15 minutes.
- Carefully heat a non-stick pan on low. Place the buns inside, cover, and cook for 10 minutes. Gently flip and cook for an additional 5 minutes, until they’re golden and puffed.
