- In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking soda, salt, and optional spices until well combined.
- In a large bowl, beat the unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Incorporate the large eggs, vanilla extract, almond extract, and orange zest into the butter mixture. Blend until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until well incorporated. Chill the dough for at least 1 hour or overnight.
- Scoop the chilled dough into 1-inch balls and roll in the vibrant orange and black sanding sugar.
- Place the cookie dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 10–12 minutes.
- Let them cool on a rack before enjoying! Decorate with festive icing and sprinkles if desired.
