For the Chicken
  • 1 kg Boneless Chicken Breast
  • 1 tsp Cumin adds a nutty aroma
  • 1 tsp Thyme fresh or dried
  • 1 tbsp Paprika smoked for extra flavor
  • 1 tbsp Salt adjust to taste
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
For the Vegetables
  • 2 large Tomatoes or canned tomatoes
  • 1 large Red Onion or yellow onion
  • 1 medium Green Bell Pepper or Romano peppers
  • 2 large Potatoes or sweet potatoes
For the Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 6 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil any good quality
Optional Ingredients
  • 6 cloves Garlic, grated fresh is best
  • 1 tbsp Salted Butter optional for richness

Method
 

How to Make Chicken Tava
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a metal baking pan, arrange chopped tomatoes, potatoes, bell pepper, and onion.
  3. In a large bowl, combine boneless chicken with cumin, thyme, paprika, grated garlic, and 1 tbsp of olive oil.
  4. Mix the spiced chicken with the layered vegetables, add tomato paste, and drizzle with more olive oil.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper, and optionally add butter.
  6. Cover the pan with foil and bake for about 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and broil for 5-10 minutes until browned.
  8. Serve warm alongside Turkish sides like coban salatasi and flatbread.
