  • 1/2 cup Light Corn Syrup Honey works as a great natural substitute.
  • 1/4 cup Honey Swap with maple syrup for a vegan option.
  • 1/4 cup Water Essential for dissolving sugar.
  • 2 large Egg Whites For vegans, substitute with 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tablespoons of water.

For the Mix-ins
  • 1 cup Chopped Almonds or Favorite Nuts Alternative options like walnuts or pecans work beautifully too.
  • 1 cup Chopped Dried Fruits (e.g., apricots, cranberries, cherries) Use whatever dried fruits you have on hand.
  • 1/2 cup Optional: Mini Chocolate Chips Dark chocolate chips can add a healthful spin.

Equipment

  • saucepan
  • Spatula
  • Baking Dish

Method

Making the Nougat Candy
  1. In a saucepan, mix granulated sugar, corn syrup, honey, and water. Heat over medium until bubbling and the sugar fully dissolves, creating a glossy syrup.
  2. Remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes. Stir in egg whites and salt until everything is well combined and smooth.
  3. Gently fold in vanilla extract, chopped nuts, and dried fruits (add chocolate chips if desired). Make sure the mixture is evenly distributed.
  4. Spoon the mixture into a lined baking dish, pressing down firmly with a spatula. Smooth the top to ensure even bars once set.
  5. Place the dish in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, allowing the bars to firm up completely before serving.
  6. Once set, cut into bars while still in the dish. Serve immediately or store for later snacking!
  7. Optional: Drizzle with melted dark chocolate for an extra treat.
