Making the Buns
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Slowly combine warm melted butter and milk, mixing in the egg until you have a shaggy dough. Knead the dough for 5-6 minutes until it’s smooth, then cover and let it rise for about 40 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Make the Filling: In a small bowl, mix together sugar, fresh orange zest, ground cardamom, and a pinch of salt.
- Shape Buns: Roll the risen dough out into a large rectangle on a floured surface, spread melted butter, sprinkle prepared filling, fold and roll into a log shape, cutting it into 12 strips. Twist each strip into beautiful buns.
- Second Rise: Place the twisted buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover gently and let them rise for another 25-30 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the buns for 10 minutes, then rotate and continue baking for an additional 7-8 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Prepare the Glaze: In a saucepan, heat orange juice with sugar until dissolved, then stir in cardamom and butter.
- Glaze Buns: Brush the warm glaze on the buns after baking.
