  • Vegetable or canola oil for deep frying
  • 0.5 cup Confectioners' sugar
  • Red raspberry preserves for dipping
  • Honey mustard optional

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • whisk
  • tongs
  • paper towels

Method

Instructions
  1. Assemble: Start by laying out your work surface. Place one slice of honey wheat bread down, then layer on three slices of turkey, one slice of Swiss cheese, another slice of bread, three slices of ham, one slice of cheddar cheese, and finally, top it with another slice of bread.
  2. Wrap: Diagonally slice the assembled sandwich carefully. Wrap each half tightly in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours or up to overnight to meld the flavors together.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and kosher salt. Whisk them well to ensure even distribution.
  4. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the water and beaten eggs. Pour this wet mixture into the dry ingredients, and whisk until smooth and lump-free. Set aside for later use.
  5. Heat Oil: In a large pot, pour about 2 inches of vegetable or canola oil. Heat it to a temperature between 325°F-350°F, perfect for frying to a golden crisp.
  6. Dip and Fry: Remove the plastic wrap from one half of the sandwich and dip it into the batter. Using tongs, gently transfer it to the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes, then carefully remove and let it drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. Repeat: Continue the process with the remaining sandwich halves until they’re all crispy and golden, ensuring each one is drained well after frying.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Lightly sprinkle the fried sandwiches with confectioners' sugar for a sweet topping. Serve warm alongside red raspberry preserves for dipping.
