Preparation
- Activate Yeast: Gently heat water between 105°F and 115°F. Mix in sugar and yeast, let sit 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Dough Preparation: In a mixer, combine warm milk, honey, melted butter, two beaten eggs, and yeast mixture. Blend in flour, cardamom, and salt.
- Knead Dough: Form a smooth ball, knead lightly by hand for about 5 minutes.
- First Rise: Transfer to a greased bowl, cover with cloth, let rise until doubled (1-1.5 hours).
- Shape Bread: Deflate dough, divide in half, braid each half. Place on parchment-lined trays.
- Second Rise: Cover and let rise until doubled (about 30 minutes).
- Preheat Oven: To 350°F, prepare an egg wash with remaining egg and water, brush on dough.
- Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Make Honey Orange Butter: Beat together softened butter, honey, and orange zest until fluffy.
- Serve: Slice bread and serve with whipped honey orange butter. Optionally dust with ground cardamom.
