For the Pecan Topping
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup honey or agave or light corn syrup
  • 1 large large egg
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
For the Finish
  • 1 teaspoon Flaky Maldon sea salt

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together dark brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
  3. Melt the butter and dark chocolate together until smooth. Pour into the egg and sugar blend and whisk in the bourbon.
  4. Fold the flour, cocoa powder, and salt into the mixture. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  5. Bake the brownies for 25-30 minutes until set around the edges.
  6. Combine granulated and brown sugars, flour, honey, whisked egg, and vanilla in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Stir in pecans and softened butter.
  7. Layer the pecan topping over the brownie base and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  8. Cool the brownies completely in the pan, then chill in the freezer for 15-20 minutes before slicing.
