Preparation Steps
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of granulated sugar. Let it stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in the remaining sugar, egg, vanilla extract, salt, and melted unsalted butter into the yeast mixture.
- Gradually incorporate all-purpose flour to form a soft dough. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into squares or rectangles.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or pot until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Drop the dough squares into the hot oil, frying until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
- Drain on paper towels and dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
