Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 1 pound Ground Beef substitute with ground chicken or turkey for a lighter option
  • 1 cup Fresh Thai Basil Leaves you can use regular basil, though the flavor will differ
  • 3 cloves Minced Garlic always go for fresh garlic over powdered
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce low-sodium soy sauce can be a healthier option
  • 1 tablespoon Fish Sauce if avoiding fish, replace it with extra soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar consider using brown sugar or coconut sugar for a deeper sweetness
For the Wrapper
  • 10 pieces Spring Roll Wrappers if unavailable, wonton wrappers can work too
For Frying
  • 2 cups Vegetable Oil can substitute with canola or peanut oil if preferred

Equipment

  • large mixing bowl
  • Large Pan
  • paper towels
  • serving plate

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, minced garlic, soy sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and chopped Thai basil. Mix everything together until well blended, ensuring the flavors meld beautifully.
  2. Take a spring roll wrapper and lay it flat on a clean surface. Place about 2 tablespoons of the beef mixture at one corner, then fold over, tuck in the sides, and roll tightly to seal. Repeat this process until all ingredients are used up.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat until it shimmers. Carefully add the rolls in batches, frying for 3-4 minutes on each side or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  4. Remove the fried rolls and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Arrange them on a serving plate and garnish with fresh Thai basil leaves and slices of red chili for an extra pop of color!
