  • 10 cups Mini Marshmallows
  • 8 tablespoons Butter Use sweet cream salted butter for better flavor
For the Color Layers
  • 8 drops Wilton Color Right Food Coloring 8 drops each for red and blue; touch of pink

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • cookie sheets
  • Sharp knife

Method

Prepare Rice Krispie Treats
  1. Start by preparing three separate Rice Krispie Treat mixtures in the colors red, white, and blue. Set aside ample workspace for the fun layering process ahead!
  2. Combine 5 cups of mini marshmallows with 5 tablespoons of butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir until melted and smooth, then mix in 5 cups of Rice Krispie cereal. No coloring needed here!
  3. For the second layer, repeat the same measurements as the white layer, but this time, add 8 drops of red food coloring into the melted marshmallow mixture. Stir until well combined and vibrant.
  4. For the final colorful layer, combine 3 cups of mini marshmallows with 3 tablespoons of butter, melting them together. Then, mix in 3 cups of Rice Krispie cereal, adding 8 drops of blue, 2 drops of pink, and 1 drop of red food coloring. Stir to achieve your desired blue shade.
  5. Using two cookie sheets, evenly press the red and white mixtures into the bottom of each sheet. Allow them to set for 15-30 minutes until firm.
  6. Once set, cut both layers into thirds, creating alternating red and white stripes. This mimics the design of the American flag!
  7. Begin layering the red and white stripes to form the base, mimicking the American flag pattern. Get those stripes just right for maximum visual appeal!
  8. Mold the remaining blue mixture into the square area of the flag. Smooth it out gently to make it level with the stripes.
  9. Let the complete creation set completely for a smooth and beautiful finish. When ready, use a sharp knife to cut into flag-shaped slices for serving.
