How to Make 4th of July Cupcakes
  1. Mix together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in one bowl. In another bowl, cream room temperature unsalted butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, followed by sour cream and buttermilk, mixing until just combined.
  2. Take about 1 cup of the batter and stir in cocoa powder to create a luscious chocolate flavor.
  3. Separate the remaining batter into two equal portions. Color one portion red and the other blue using gel food coloring.
  4. Line a cupcake tin with liners. Alternate spoonfuls of the red and blue batters into each liner and swirl gently with a toothpick.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cupcakes for 20-25 minutes.
  6. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely on a wire rack, then frost each cupcake with rich vanilla buttercream.
  7. Optionally, sprinkle edible stars or themed sprinkles on top of the frosting!
