- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Whisk together the egg whites, almond extract, and confectioner's sugar in a medium bowl until lumpy. Fold in the sliced almonds.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix granulated sugar, large eggs, almond extract, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk until pale and thickened.
- Fold in the all-purpose flour gently, followed by the melted butter until smooth. Avoid overmixing.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing it out evenly. Top with the almond mixture.
- Bake for 28-32 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool the cake for 15-20 minutes before removing from the pan. Dust with confectioner's sugar before serving.
