  • 1 medium Lotus Root Choose firm, light-colored pieces.
For the Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce Tamari can be used as a gluten-free alternative.
  • 1 tablespoon Mirin Substitute with a little sake mixed with sugar if needed.
  • 1 tablespoon Sake Can be omitted if unavailable.
For Garnishing
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds Toast lightly for enhanced flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Chili Peppers/Togarashi Optional, adjust according to preference.

Preparation
  1. Peel the lotus root and slice it into thin rounds, about an eighth of an inch thick.
  2. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  3. Add the lotus root slices and stir-fry them until they turn lightly golden brown, about 5 minutes.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce, mirin, and sake. Stir well to coat the lotus root slices.
  5. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes until it becomes glossy.
  6. Sprinkle sesame seeds and any optional chili peppers over the top before serving.
