  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour swap for gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper adjust according to taste
  • 1 Large Egg consider a flax egg for vegan
  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt sea salt can be used as a substitute
For the Crunch
  • 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs regular breadcrumbs can be used if needed
For the Main Ingredient
  • 11 oz Soft Goat Cheese the star of the dish
For Frying
  • 2 cups Oil Grapeseed, Canola, or Vegetable oil
For the Drizzle and Garnish
  • 1 Tbsp Honey agave nectar is a great vegan substitute
  • 2 Tbsp Minced Fresh Chives green onions can work well if needed

Method
 

How to Make Crispy Goat Cheese Poppers with Honey
  1. In a medium bowl, combine all-purpose flour and black pepper.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the large egg, kosher salt, and 2 tablespoons of water until smooth.
  3. Place panko breadcrumbs in a separate bowl.
  4. Roll the soft goat cheese into 24 balls, roughly 1 tablespoon each. Coat each ball sequentially in flour, then dip it into the egg mixture, and finally coat it in the panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Arrange the coated cheese balls on a baking sheet and freeze them for 20 minutes.
  6. In a deep saucepan, heat oil to 350°F over medium-high heat.
  7. Carefully fry the goat cheese balls in batches for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Once fried, remove the poppers with a slotted spoon and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  9. Arrange your crispy poppers on a serving platter, drizzling them with honey and sprinkling with fresh chives. Serve immediately.
