Ingredients
  

For the Beef
  • 1 lb Beef Sirloin or Flank Steak slice thinly against the grain
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch can be substituted with gluten-free cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour can be replaced with gluten-free flour blend
  • 1 large Egg use a flax egg for a vegan alternative
  • 1/2 cup Water vegetable broth can add extra flavor
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 2 cups Vegetable Oil for frying; ensure it's hot for perfect crisping
For the Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce use tamari for a gluten-free alternative
  • 2 tbsp Rice Vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Hoisin Sauce can be substituted with soy sauce and honey blend
  • 2 tbsp Chili Sauce adjust based on spice preference
  • 1 tbsp Sugar can be reduced or replaced with honey
  • 2 cloves Minced Garlic
  • 1 tbsp Minced Ginger
  • 1 large Onion
  • 1 large Bell Pepper
  • 2 whole Red Chilies optional, adjust according to preference
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 2 tbsp Chopped Green Onions for garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Begin by slicing the beef sirloin or flank steak thinly against the grain.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Add one egg and a splash of water, mixing until you achieve a smooth batter.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  5. Dip the beef strips into the batter, ensuring they are well-coated.
  6. Fry in batches for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.
Making the Sauce
  1. In a wok, heat sesame oil over medium heat.
  2. Toss in minced garlic, ginger, onion, and bell pepper, sautéing until softened.
  3. Stir in the soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, chili sauce, and sugar.
  4. Simmer for approximately 2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Gently fold the crispy beef strips into the sauce and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Garnish your Crispy Chilli Beef with sliced chilies and chopped green onions.
Serving
  1. Pair with steamed jasmine rice or noodles for a complete meal.
