- Begin by slicing the beef sirloin or flank steak thinly against the grain.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add one egg and a splash of water, mixing until you achieve a smooth batter.
- Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Dip the beef strips into the batter, ensuring they are well-coated.
- Fry in batches for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.
Making the Sauce
- In a wok, heat sesame oil over medium heat.
- Toss in minced garlic, ginger, onion, and bell pepper, sautéing until softened.
- Stir in the soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, chili sauce, and sugar.
- Simmer for approximately 2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Gently fold the crispy beef strips into the sauce and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes.
