  • 4 tbsp Fresh Coarsely Ground Black Pepper Pre-ground black pepper works in a pinch.
  • 2 tbsp Coriander Powder Cumin can be a suitable substitute if needed.
  • 1.5 tsp Mustard Powder Dijon mustard may enhance your sandwich.
  • 1 tbsp Brown Sugar Feel free to swap in honey or maple syrup.
  • 1 tbsp Smoked Paprika Regular paprika is a good alternative if you don’t have smoked.
  • 2 tsp Garlic Powder Fresh garlic can be used as well, just adjust to your taste.
  • 2 tsp Onion Powder You can substitute with fresh onion if preferred.
  • 2 tbsp Liquid Smoke Optional; intensifies the smokiness.

Method
 

How to Make Easy Homemade Pastrami
  1. Prepare Spice Mix: In a large tray, combine all the spice ingredients together until well blended.
  2. Coat Beef: Pat the corned beef dry with paper towels. Roll the beef in the prepared spice mix, ensuring it's fully coated.
  3. Wrap Beef: Wrap the spiced beef tightly in aluminum foil, fat cap facing up, and place it in your slow cooker.
  4. Cook: Set your slow cooker to low and let it cook for 10 hours.
  5. Cool: Once cooked, carefully remove the beef from the cooker and allow it to cool in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours.
  6. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Unwrap the beef and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Slice & Serve: Slice the pastrami thinly against the grain and serve warm on rye bread.
