- In a large nonstick skillet, add the pearl onions, butter, cider vinegar, whiskey, maple syrup, dried thyme, salt, pepper, and water. Stir everything together over medium-high heat until it begins to boil.
- Once boiling, cover the skillet and reduce the heat to medium-low. Cook for about 6-8 minutes, or until the onions become tender and translucent.
- Uncover the skillet and increase the heat back to medium-high. Let the mixture simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid reduces and the onions are beautifully glazed and glossy.
- Remove the skillet from the heat. Serve the Buttery Whiskey-Glazed Pearl Onions warm, garnished with chopped fresh herbs if desired.
